Having a week in Prague meant that we got to slowly explore instead of trying to fit all the highlights into two days. Justin shared the major tourist spots already, so I wanted to share a few photos of some of our favorite spots we found in Prague’s Old Town.

I love the way the city is laid out on both sides of the river. We stayed across the river from the Old Town, but we spent a lot of time wandering through the streets of the most visited part of town. Paris was such a beautiful city, but the buildings are very monochromatic. Prague had a lot of color everywhere. I spent so much of my time tripping over cobblestones because I was looking up. The perfect fall weather might have helped my love affair with this city even more.

Favorites in Prague’s Old Town

The Book Tower

Located right inside the doors for the main public library, this beautiful structure was a favorite find for me. I love books. Decorating with them in our homes has always been a favorite because they serve a dual purpose. I thought this was such a cool art piece inside a library.

Man Hanging Out

This guy is hard to miss if you aren’t constantly staring up like I was. It’s a statue of Sigmund Freud pondering whether to hang on or let go. The sculptor is David Černý and he has multiple works of art around Prague. You can read more about it in this article. It’s definitely worth searching out just to see something a little different.

Havelské tržiště – Havel’s Market

This market was recommended to us by our friend, Katie. If you are looking for souvenirs, this would be a great place to stop. There are tons of different vendors selling all kinds of different things. You can find puppets, magnets, and lots of great art. My favorite stands were the fruit stands. The grocery store in our neighborhood had great vegetable options, but the fruit selection was pretty sad. The first time we walked through this market, I couldn’t get enough of the berry selection. I don’t know what it looks like once the weather gets cold, but if you are there during the warmer months – definitely visit this market for fruits & veggies.

Random Street Markets

We stumbled upon a few different street markets on the weekend days. Those are my favorite to do some browsing. Even though we aren’t buying, I still like looking at the different items people create. There was one stand that made art out of old scratched up records. Another here had the softest sweatshirts I’ve ever felt and I almost caved. The city just seems to have things going on every weekend.

The Jewish Quarter

Justin talked about the Jewish Museum already, but the entire area is so beautiful. A museum ticket gets you into multiple synagogues that have exhibits inside plus the cemetery. While walking from one to another, stop to take in the beautiful architecture and also the intense history that has happened where you are standing. Even if you don’t do the museum (which you should), make sure to take some time to wander these streets.

And All the Pretty Buildings

You are probably sick of seeing the word “pretty” at this point. I think I said it out loud at every intersection. This is a great city to get out and walk. There are busy streets filled with people, but there are tons of quiet streets where you can stop and take it all in without worrying about being in someone’s way. That was my favorite part – quiet, pretty streets filled with stories that I could only imagine. I’ll just leave a few more photos here.

A Little Social Time

Last, but not least, we got to meet up with a friend from Minnesota and meet a new friend. We spend most of our time with just the two of us, so we love any chance to just sit down and talk to other people. Justin (yes, another one) & Ann were awesome enough to let us crash their party and hang out with them one night. We enjoyed beers, late night pizza and lots of laughs. Some time with good humans is just wonderful.

Prague’s Old Town is the center of all the action here, especially if you are visiting. Most hotels and hostels are close to this area. Even if you aren’t staying in the middle of town, you will find yourself here. Give yourself a little extra time to wander around.
