Two days was not enough in this magical corner of France. Strasbourg is the official seat of the European Parliament and has been a city in both France and Germany as the lines have shifted over the years. They speak French, but it definitely doesn’t look like Paris. The old town area is situated around lots of small canals and cobblestone streets. As the capital of the Alsace region, it is the perfect place to stay and explore.

While our time here was short, Strasbourg made a permanent impression on us. We absolutely adored everything about it. The town is very walkable. We experienced a lot of rain while we were here, but found plenty of ways to entertain ourselves. The only thing I would say has to be on your list is to climb to the top of the Notre Dame cathedral right in the middle of town. The views are amazing.

A Few of our Favorite Photos from Strasbourg

If those photos don’t convince you, I don’t know what will.

We spent two days listening to rain on the roof of our top floor apartment. The mornings were quiet on the streets and we watched the sun come up over the colorful buildings. The boulangerie across the street from our place had the biggest croissants I have ever encountered. I was able to successfully order at restaurants in my horrible French and was greeted with the warmest smiles because they knew I was trying. The bicycles outnumbered the cars, the bakeries outnumbered the souvenir shops and everything seemed to be holding onto a secret story.

Our time here with Justin’s parents were the quietest and the slowest, but the memories are amazing. We had time to introduce them to one of our favorite Netflix shows, eat giant dinners right on the canal, climb all those stairs and enjoy a random Oktoberfest celebration we stumbled upon. It felt like we had settled into our travel routine. Read about our time with them in Heidelberg here.

We haven’t ruled out returning while in Europe still this year, but if not, we will be back soon for a longer period.
