We spent 9 days in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It’s in the northern part of the country in the mountains. The temperatures are a little cooler than Bangkok typically. You will find an abundance of temples and culture in the area as well as tons of expats.

We put out a question on Instagram asking our followers where we should go in Thailand. It wasn’t a top spot for us, but we wanted to explore a little of it while in SE Asia and knew that recommendations are usually the best. The top two answers were the islands in the south and Chiang Mai.

It was a short flight from Luang Prabang to Chiang Mai and less than $50 USD per person, so we jumped on the chance. We were able to find an Airbnb apartment that was extremely affordable and decided to just spend some time catching up on internet chores and taking advantage of having a kitchen and a washing machine for a bit.

While in Chiang Mai, we enjoyed some of the popular attractions like the Night Market and the many beautiful temples. We went at an extremely slow pace and allowed ourselves a little breathing room. There was an infinity pool and gym on the roof of our building that we took advantage of. We went grocery shopping and cooked dinners at home and we organized the next few big legs of our trip. There was even a rainy day trip to the mall to watch the Lion King.

Since we used this week as a “regular life” kind of week, I wanted to share a few favorite photos.

If you are planning a trip to Chiang Mai and want a list of our favorite spots, let me know and I’m happy to send them your way. This is a great place to explore some of the most beautiful temples I’ve ever seen. The surrounding countryside is beautiful.
