If you are in search of surfers, sunshine and a Hemsworth brother, Byron Bay is a perfect place to visit. We spent two nights here to kick off my mom’s trip to Australia in August.

Our two nights there were absolutely perfect. The Airbnb we rented was an apartment located above a garden store with a balcony overlooking all the plants and flowers. We cooked and enjoyed the warm sunshine outside. Tallows Beach was less than a 10-minute walk from the house (it was selected as one of our favorites in this recap). We spent golden hour there watching the waves and the resident Wallaby.

We spent our one full day doing a little beach hopping. There were some whales visible in the ocean. The Balcony Bar was a great lunch spot with some great people watching views and fantastic food. We had dinner closer to home at the Roadhouse. They served Brooklyn style pizzas and a great craft beer selection.

I couldn’t recommend it enough for the location and decor and comfort of this spot. If you are new to AirBnB, sign up using this link to get a discount on your first stay.

Byron Beach is a hipster beach spot with a ton of great restaurants, shopping and bars. The beaches are pristine and the surfable waves are consistent. Everything is very laidback, but also very well curated. It reminded me a lot of Montauk, NY.

If this sounds like your scene, definitely make Byron Bay a stop on your Australia trip. We loved it and I hope we find ourselves back for a longer stay next time.
