Canggu, Bali is a laid back beach town that is close to the chaos of Kuta and Legian, but not too close. We made the epic mistake of booking a place in Legian and we hated it. It was loud and chaotic and miserable after the previous weeks of bliss.
We swapped out the chaos for Canggu and instantly felt like we could breathe again. That might sound dramatic, but it was the most refreshing place. The beach spots, the sunsets and the cafes all make this town the perfect place for a long weekend in Bali.
Where to Stay in Canggu
We booked our last minute room at the London Residences Boutique Hotel. We used a gift card and some points to book it and it was heaven. The bed was so comfortable, the location was great and we loved it.
The hotel is London themed and each room has a different, giant James Bond movie poster. They have excellent internet, an awesome pool and it’s located in a quiet neighborhood.
Canggu Photos and Favorites
There are a few beaches in this area. It is a great area for surfing and kite boarding. Old Man’s was our favorite bar to sit and watch the athletes out in the water. We also loved the Classic Beach Bar. There is a whole line of options for sunset along the beach.
Panama Kitchen has a wonderful menu and a pool you can hang out by. We enjoyed watching the Instagram influencers pose with all kinds of weird drinks by the pool while we enjoyed our cheap beers and jackfruit tacos. It’s colorful and the food was amazing.
Canggu, Bali is a perfect area for vegetarian food options. Silk Road was a great little spot near our hotel. We ate here a few times and were shocked at the size of the dinner portions. Their smoothies were also delightful for a midday snack.
Cinta Cafe was another favorite place of ours. We spent two long mornings there catching up on some blog posts and eating their colorful smoothie bowls. The heart shaped vessels were perfect for lunch on a hot day. Add in the rice terrace views and ice cold lattes and it made for the perfect spot to hang out and get some things done.
Last, but not least, in our list of favorite cafes is Sunny’s. The vintage vibes and HUGE menu with brunch options made us feel like we were back in Brooklyn (except for the prices). It was nice to have a local spot to go with good AC and a huge bookshelf to browse.
Final Thoughts on Canggu, Bali
This is such a nice place to start or end a Bali vacation. It’s only about 40 minutes from the airport and you will find all the comforts of the busier beach towns to the south without the chain fast food restaurants and nightclubs. It definitely gave off a hipster vibe and it should only be a quick stopover on your way someplace else in Bali. The island is so incredible and there are way too many amazing places.
